+Artist's Statement

My paintings are a personal reflection of the world around me. I enjoy creating works of art that are inspirational and uplifting. In an era filled with high technology, stress, and an endless stream of "bad news", I like to draw attention to that which is beautiful and often overlooked, in our fast-paced, modern lifestyle.

I consider most of my paintings to be portraits, whether of a particular landscape that I've come to love, a gorgeous flower at a certain moment in time, or an endangered animal that I'm capturing for all eternity. I present to my viewers a vision of the world as seen through my eyes and hope that they can see what I see, and feel what I feel.

+Biography

Julie's unique style, known as Tempera Batik on paper, is characterized by a vivid use of color, an appealing textural surface and compelling imagery. "I enjoy artwork which is inspirational and uplifting. I believe in painting from the heart. When an artist paints things which they find meaningful, I think the honesty and depth of feeling is reflected in their work". Her current paintings include Central Coast landscapes, exotic flowers and endangered species. Collectors of her work are attracted to both the abstract and representational qualities found in her paintings. Julie's unique style is characterized by vibrant use of color, an appealing textural surface, and compelling imagery. She has won several awards for her paintings, and will accept commissions.

An accomplished artist and art educator, she holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University Fullerton, in Drawing and Painting, (1983), as well as a teaching credential in Art from National University, (1992). Combining her love of art with teaching has enabled Julie to enhance her own skills while assisting students. Her teaching career took her overseas, where she experienced a variety of cultures and artistic styles, which have greatly influenced her work. Over the past 20 years her art career has included graphic design, architectural illustration, interior design, textile art-to-wear, commissioned illustrations, murals, teaching, and exhibitions.

Before coming to live on the Central Coast, Julie taught overseas where she experienced a variety of cultures and artistic styles that have influenced her current work. Her paintings are permanently featured at "The Gallery at the Network", located at 778 Higuera St., Suite B, in San Luis Obispo, which she co-owns with landscape watercolorist, Rosanne Seitz, and jewelry designer, Linda Lewis.
